Your wedding is a special day for you, your spouse, and your families. A lot of people fear their photoshoot will go wrong and tend to overly plan the moment. Yes, there’s such thing as planning your wedding photoshoot “too much.” You want to have the perfect balance of planned and professional while keeping everything in order. Read on for some very important do’s and don’ts for your wedding photoshoot.

Do: Plan ahead & do your research

Planning is one of, if not the absolute most important part of a wedding. It ensures your venue, dress, photographer, and more are exactly what you want. Same goes for your photoshoot the day of! We can’t stress it enough how important it is to plan out how you want your photoshoot to look, who you should include, and what the scene is going to look like. This way, you’ll have a better idea of how to describe your vision to your photographer.

Another thing you want to plan for is choosing your photographer. Even though it sounds pretty self explanatory, it’s important to do your research on photographers in your area (and guess what, we also do wedding photoshoots ;) ) By doing your research and planning early you can be sure to book the photographer you like.

Don’t: Over-plan your poses

We’ve all been there – scrolling through Pinterest, Instagram, and Google for the perfct wedding photo inspo. However, by doing this you get ideas of every little move and pose you absolutely have to do which can go either of 2 ways:

1.     You end up hating the photo

2.     You actually love the photos but are super stressed out during the shoot itself

Planning out your photoshoot is all you need to focus on, and you can leave the actual poses to the photographer to guide you. You can let them know of ideas you’d like to try, but overall the photographer likely has a few common poses for every session.

Do: Try to limit phone usage during your ceremony

Your photographer should be the only person taking photos at your ceremony. The reason for this is because while we love & adore our friends and family, you won’t really want their phones in all your shots down the aisle. You can get a backup photographer if you want more candid shots from different angles, but it’s not something you need to do. A good idea to get your attendees to refrain from using their phones is to put a sign big enough and in a spot they will all pass when going to their seats. This is a gentle reminder and is usually a well-respected rule by your guests.

Don’t: Stray away from your schedule

If you’re someone who’s always late, then you know the stress that comes with it – you move through everything quickly and skip a few steps. When it comes to your wedding photoshoot, sticking to the schedule you finalized with the photographer is key. This is so they can make the most out of the time you booked them for and can get in as many pictures as possible.

Whether you’re planning your own wedding or helping someone plan their wedding, keeping these do’s and don’ts in mind will keep the day as stress-free as possible!
