How to Look Good During Your Maternity Photoshoot
So you’re going to be a new mom and want to capture that moment. You might feel uncomfortable and shy, but it is definitely something to be celebrated! Read on for our best tips to looking and feeling your best during your maternity photoshoot.
When is the right time?
As you go through your pregnancy, planning your maternity shoot should be considered early on so you have enough time to adjust along the way. We suggest for new mothers to book their shoot during their 7th or 8th month during their third trimester. This is a good time because your bump will be big enough, but not so big that you’ll be uncomfortable the entire time. If you’re blessed to have twins, you would want to consider your 6th or 7th month just because they have a higher possibility to come sooner than expected.
What should I be wearing?
A lot of maternity photoshoots have the mother in a flowy dress or something similar. When choosing your outfit, try to pick a maxi dress that is tighter at the top just above the belly and flowy on the bottom half. These dresses do well because not only do they always make you look like the queen you are, but you can also play around with different styles where your bump is hidden vs exposed. They are a versatile, comfortable option. Another option you can go with is having something entirely form-fitting. These do well because they accentuate all your curves. We also recommend bringing multiple outfits so you can change into them and have different options for your photos.
Should I wear makeup?
Makeup is often something you think about when planning your photoshoots, so why not also consider it during your maternity shoot? It might be better to have a professional makeup artist to do your makeup for your session. The reason being that it will be one less thing you’ll have to prepare for, and it’s their job to make you look flawless and feel confident. If you go with a professional makeup artist, be sure to give them ideas about the look you want. Can’t find one? You can also ask your photographer – chance are they’ll have some recommendations of people they have worked with before.
Can I bring props?
Yes! You definitely should bring props for your shoot if you want. Types of props you can bring are sonograms, baby clothes, signs and the list goes on – plus, they can make your photos that much more memorable. Be sure to bring your ideas to your photoshoot to share with your photographer.
