Be mindful of the weather

Be mindful of the weather – when we say this, we mean multiple things need to be considered when planning your fall photoshoot. Not only is the weather cooler, but the sun also goes down at a different time as the days get shorter. Don’t let daylight savings affect your fall photoshoot and have the sun go down super early on you, simply plan your shoot around the sun! This sounds difficult to do, but it’s actually simple. Be sure to keep a note of the approximate time the sun has set leading up to the date of your session, that way you can plan for the sun to be out long enough to finish your entire shoot.  You can get a good idea just by googling sunset times. As we’re sure you know, the days in November/December tend to be much shorter than the beginning of fall in August-October.

Your location matters

The place where you want your shoot matters a lot for a fall shoot. Do you want to go somewhere where the leaves are changing beautiful colors? How about if the location you want typically gets a lot of rain? It’s important to keep these things in mind when choosing the location for your fall shoot. We think it’s best to choose your location closer to the date of your shoot because what’s here today may be gone tomorrow. While choosing your location at a later time may seem stressful, consider how much MORE stressful it’ll be if your location that you set your heart on is in disarray the day of.

Plan your outfits accordingly

When fall hits, so do the vibrant orange, yellow and red hues of the foliage in the background. Make sure to choose an outfit that does not match your background or blend in too much so as to not get lost within the photos. Make sure you plan your outfits to contrast the backgrounds of the photos. Something simple like dark denim, a white blouse or t-shirt and cute boots could do just the trick for your outfit. It will not only stand out amongst the scenery, it’ll help keep you and your family to be the main focus of the picture.

Everyone loves a cute fall photo to print or share with your family and friends, be sure to take a few things into consideration when planning for your shoot. Remember, it also tends to be the most popular time for photoshoots, so be sure to book early enough!  Fall photos can turn out great with little to no effort the day of but use these tips to craft the perfect day with no interruptions.
