Questions to Ask Your Photographer Before Your Photoshoot

Whether you’re planning a wedding photoshoot or a family shoot, be sure to ask your photographer these questions before committing. Not only will this save you time during the session to spend more time for picture-taking, but it will also help your photographer understand their client better. We want you to choose the person that fits your style, budget, and everything in between throughout the process.

How much does it cost?

This is something a lot of people wonder and ask way after they have their heart set on a photographer. However, there are many things that make photographers different, including prices we charge. For instance, some photographers might have more services available for a smaller price or are closer to your budget. Before committing to a photographer and date, you want to be sure your needs align with what they can provide you. Otherwise, you may end up in a situation where you paid a deposit and can’t afford the rest of the services you anticipated. Asking upfront to see pricing will help you narrow down your options during your discovery phase.

What is your availability?

Aside from the price, the next most important thing you should ask your photographer is their availability. While you may have a date in mind, your photographer might have an all-day commitment or many different sessions for that same day. This is especially important for wedding photoshoots because every bride wants her special day to be perfect, including having their photographer present. It’s important to reach out to all your top options to see what their availability is for your selected date so you avoid committing to someone and finding out their schedule can’t line up. It’s also important to keep in mind that you’ll want to book way in advance - sometimes even a year out! For us, we already have 2022 being booked up quick!

What is included in your packages?

If you have never spent any amount of time with a professional photographer, you might not know that often the actual photos and albums you want of the finished products are a separate cost to your actual shoot. The reason for this is because  even though we spend time with you during your photoshoot, it takes weeks or longer to edit and crop your photos. We may have spent an hour with you to get 100-200 shots, we then have to sift through the best shots and edit them – which could only leave us with 50 or less available to choose from which is a lot more work. You should always ask what your package includes before you commit to the photographer.

What if someone has to cancel?

It could be us who needs to cancel or you, it’s always important you understand the alternative plans your photographer has set forth in case of a cancellation. We understand emergencies happen, but you should make sure your photographer has a backup plan in case they were unable to make it. This is especially true with larger events that have a photographer, it’s way more difficult to change all your plans last minute if you have a big event planned.

Next time you’re choosing a photographer for your next photoshoot, make sure you take the necessary time to plan and research and make sure they check all your boxes. Check out our style!
