Guide to Your Senior Photoshoot

Do you ever think back to when you were about to graduate (or maybe that’s you now) and you dreaded/were excited for senior photos? It’s all we talked about at the beginning of the schoolyear. Throwing around questions like, “what poses are you going to do?”; “where are your pictures getting taken?”; and most importantly, “what are you wearing?!” These are all questions we asked ourselves and others to get the best advice. While all these are important, probably the most important tip we could give is keep it natural to how you are on a daily basis.

Clothing matters, but don’t overdo it

One of the most commonly asked questions is, “what am I gonna wear?” and truthfully, you don’t want to overdo your outfits. What we mean by this is to dress up, but you don’t have to wear a prom dress to your senior photos. You can easily find a cute sundress or solid colored outfit that’s true to your style and look. Some things to avoid would be trying something out of your comfort zone, tight, or that contains a pattern that is trendy only for today. Remember, the purpose of senior photos is to remember you as you are today as a senior, not someone you are just in your pictures.

All about accessories

Now for one of the most fun parts of the outfit, the accessories! We love a good statement piece, but we also recommend wearing something that is part of your style and goes with your outfit. What about glasses? Two words – wear them! If glasses are something people know you for wearing, then you should definitely do it. That way you can avoid any awkward squinting, also! Okay, so what if you have braces that won’t be off by the time your pictures are scheduled, do not worry – we can retouch them! Retouching can sometimes be a separate or more expensive cost than the regular package, so keep that in mind.

Location, location, location!

Trying to decide the perfect location for your session? That sometimes can be the most difficult part about planning your senior photos. You can go a couple ways about successfully choosing the location for your senior photos. One way to choose your senior photos is, well, not choosing and just using the studio. Though this is the default, you can often choose some kind of background that you’ll want in the finished photos. However, if you want them to be more unique, we suggest you choose somewhere that you’re familiar with or that means something to you. Do you have a park that you always go to or want to take a photo with your car in a cool area? These are places that will likely give you great memories when you go back to look at your photos.

Taking senior photos can get stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Making sure to book ahead of early so you can be sure to get your photos in time is important. Also, choosing a location first can ease a lot of stress closer to the photoshoot. If you’d like to chat with us about our senior photo sessions, fill out this form!
